November 2009: Discuss with OBGYN that I'd like to go on birth control before our upcoming wedding. We wouldn't want a baby too soon, now would we?
December 2009 - September 2010: Taking Ortho Try-Cyclen Lo, but experiencing terrible headaches and other side effects.
October 2010: Discuss with new OBGYN switching because the pill makes me CRAZY.
October 2010 - January 2011: Taking a Progestin only pill, wacky periods ensue.
January 2011: We decide that I should come off all birth control pills. I'm either worried about blood clots, or bleeding for 10+ days. I'm done!
February 2011 - April 2011: Condoms only, but the husband is religious in their use, he does not want a baby "before the time is right".
May 2011: Cycle #1. We pulled the goalie! 2nd year of PT school started and that was our deal. Husband was still worried (for nothing). BFN.
June 2011: Cycle # 2. Started charting because I have never had "normal" cycles. BFN.
July 2011: Cycle # 3. Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. My cycles are not regular, so I research how to know when to baby dance. Timed intercourse every other day from CD10 through 2DPO begins. BFN.
August 2011: Cycle #4. Conceived our wee one.
September 9th 2011: Our first BFP!
September 13th 2011: Miscarried. 6 weeks, 1 day.
September 2011 - November 2011: Cycle #5, #6, #7. Doctor recommended a three cycle break after miscarriage. Probably for the best.... emotionally unstable following miscarriage. Brokenhearted, but extremely determined to get pregnant right away.
December 2011: Cycle #8. Start trying again. BFN.
January 2012: Cycle #9. Meet with OBGYN who believes the miscarriage was natural and normal and "just one of those things" but that my charts suggest I don't ovulate every month. Recommends we increase our chances with oral ovulation induction medications. Sam also completes our first semen analysis. Doctor reports everything is normal. Round 1 of Clomid, 100mg, BFN.
March 2012: Cycle # 10. Round 2 of Clomid, 150 mg. I request an appointment to sort out whether Clomid is working... doctor suggests ultrasound to see if I ovulated. BBT chart suggests possible ovulation, but I never receive a positive OPK. Ultrasound post ovulation shows a 5+cm cyst on each ovary. Doctor explains the dangers of large cysts and that we cannot continue on Clomid until the cysts go away. BFN. Crushed... so desperate for a baby.
April 2012: Cycle #11 & #12. Taking Nuva Ring per OBGYN's recommendation to get rid of cysts for 2 cycles. OBGYN suggests I may need more monitoring on Clomid (you think?) so we might as well do IUI.
May 2012: Cycle #13. Decide to stop taking Nuva Ring, but can't go back on Clomid yet. We try naturally. BFN. We decide as we will be moving soon, we might as well go straight to an RE rather than continue under the care of an OBGYN.
May 7 2012: Consultation at ACRM in Atlanta.
May 9 2012: HSG: normal uterus and open tubes.
June 2012: We decide not to try Clomid again, but rather to wait until we move from Augusta and start fresh with Dr. Carpenter at ACRM.
June 27 2012: Ultrasound with OB shows I ovulated and no cysts.
July 2012: Cycle #14. Trying naturally. BFN.
August 2012: Cycle #15. First cycle at ACRM. Clomid 50 mg, 1 24mm, 1 20mm, 1 17mm, 6mm lining, HCG trigger on CD 17, IUI on CD 18. Progesterone level 45 six days after IUI. BFN.
September 2012: Cycle #16. Second cycle at ACRM. We decide to switch to Femara rather than try Clomid plus estrogen. Femara 5mg, 1 22mm (may or may not be a cyst), 1 18mm, 10mm lining, HCG trigger on CD 16, IUI on CD 17. Progesterone level 13 seven days after IUI. Doctor starts me on Prometrium 8 days post IUI. BFN.
October 2012: Cycle #17. Third cycle at ACRM. Discuss going back to Clomid for the increase in follicles or staying on Femara for the higher quality lining. Decide to go with Femara but up the dose in hopes of additional follicles. Femara 7.5mg, 1 28mm, 11mm lining. Surge detected by OPK before mid-cycle check... no need for hCG trigger. IUI on CD 14. Start prometrium 3 days post IUI without P4 check. BFN.
November 2012: Cycle #18. Trying on our own while we wait for consultation with Dr. Carpenter. BFN.
November 29 2012: Follow up consultation. Doctor recommends IVF.
December 3 2012: Urologist consultation at RBA to discuss poor wash.
December 3 2013: Consultation at Servy-Massey... less expensive.
December 2012: Cycle #19. Trying on our own while we decide which clinic to go with. Consultations at RBA is timed to mid-cycle. Ultrasound shows 1 14mm follicle, 7mm lining at CD 12. No positive OPK detected that month, no ovulation detected through BBT. BFN.
December 10 2012: Consultation at RBA. Love Dr. Slayden!
December 17 2012: Ultrasound reveals two varicoceles. Blood work reveals low(ish) testosterone levels. Semen workup reveals mild asthenospermia. Varicocelectomy recommended.
January 2013: Cycle #20. Taking a break from OPK's. Try naturally. BFN. Dr. Slayden requests multiple tests in attempt to find a diagnosis. All results are in the "gray" area... no diagnosis.
February 2013: Cycle #21. Back to OPK's per Dr. Slayden's request. BFN.
March 2013: Cycle #22. Starting Pregnitude per Dr. Slayden's recommendation. Trying on our own. BFN.
April 2013: Cycle #23. We decide to do an exploratory laparoscopy to rule out Endometriosis. Not trying due to surgery.
May 3 2013: Laparoscopy, Hysteroscopy, D&C- results: all normal, no endometriosis

May 2013: Cycle #24. Femara 7.5mg CD4-8 & Follistim 75iu CD 8-10. Ultrasound CD 9: 1 14mm, 1 12mm, 1 11mm, 1 10mm, lining 6.4. Ultrasound CD 11: 1 18mm, 1 14mm, 2 13mm, 1 11mm, lining 7.8. Ultrasound CD 13: 1 22mm, 1 18mm, 1 17mm, 1 15mm, 1 13mm, lining 11mm. Ovidrel trigger on CD 13, IUI on CD 15. Started Crinone 1 day post IUI. BFN.
June 2013: Cycle #25. Frustrated.... if IUI with four, maybe five follicles doesn't work, how will times intercourse ever work? No OPKs this month and barely charting. BFN.
July 2013: Cycle #26. Still frustrated... not even sure you could call it trying. Ready to move on to IVF. Decide to look into all possible clinics. BFN.
August 26 2013: Consultation with Dr. Slayden at RBA.
August 26 2013: Consultation with Dr. Massey at Servy-Massey.
August 2013: Cycle #27. Back to OPKs and charting. Still trying naturally. BFN.

September 23 2013: Consultation with Emory Cancelled.

Hey there, just stumbled onto your blog. Sounds like you have been through so much! We are starting our first round of IVF in July with scheduled egg retirval on July 11th. I'm definitely going to read through more of your TTC story, always looking for other women in this community that I can connect with. Best of luck to you on your journey!
ReplyDeleteI just had 3 day transfer of three. Do you have a blog?
DeleteThis baby, when you have him or her, is going to know just how loved and wanted they are. And I believe you will. I'm sure you've been told that miscarriages mean that you can conceive. My coworker had two before her healthy baby girl and then boy were born. This is meant to be supportive, not preachy. I cannot pretend to know what you're going through, as we are just starting out on our journey.
ReplyDeleteAmanda, thanks for sharing your story.
