Confession #1: I "reward" myself for my period each month... it's really not a reward, but rather a consolation prize, but it needs to stop. It's been a ridiculous habit of mine since I was a teenager. I'd bemoan being a woman and curse Eve for that stupid apple, and then I'd sit down to a buffet of chocolate because unlike Suzanne, I LOVE chocolate.. I have no idea where this habit came from, maybe movies? It certainly wasn't my mom. I never heard her whine about the monthly flow. While it might have been cute and forgivable in my teens, it's certainly not now that I'm
Confession #2: Speaking of Ben & Jerry's, have you tried the new "core" ice creams? If not, run, don't walk, to the nearest store and purchase the Salted Caramel Core flavor. I. Am. Addicted. It's bad people. Ben & Jerry's is like $4.50 for a PINT! Have mercy, but that is NOT in the budget. Blue Bell isn't even in the budget (except when it's $3) and that's for a WHOLE GALLON. I think we've purchased 6-7 pints of B&Js THIS YEAR… I would wager that that's more than we've bought the rest of our marriage combined. I'm seriously addicted. We've tried the Hazed and Confused flavor, which is pretty good, but be warned, you better LOVE hazelnut, because the core is intense. We've also tried the That's My Jam flavor and it's pretty fabulous too, but believe me, you want to start with the caramel one. If you tried it, you understand. There's literally a central core running from top to bottom of salted caramel. Heaven by the spoonful.
Confession #3: I use dry shampoo more than I use real shampoo. Now, before you freak out, I still bathe every day, I just don't always wash my hair. My hair takes forever to dry, and unlike Jennie, I never mastered the blow out. For me, my hair is either a wavy, frizzy mess or I waste time better spent sleeping on blow drying and straightening this mane. No thank you. A little spray, a little fluff, an extra brush through to remove the scary, gray-haired grandmother look and bam… I'm out the door. I never intend to live without this stuff again. This would be in my deserted island bag.
Confession #4: I hate pants. I always have and apparently, I always will. My body was just not designed to fit in pants. I can deal with yoga pants and a good pair of jeans, but dress pants, trousers, khakis... all of that nonsense is just NO. If, by some miracle, I find a pair of pants that isn't too short in the inseam, has a waist line at an appropriate height, and doesn't squeeze out my
Confession #5: I have zero skin care routine. No, I'm serious. When I want to go to bed, I go to bed. I don't wash my face, put on moisturizer, dab on wrinkle prevention cream… none of it. I don't even own eye makeup remover. I typically leave the shower looking like a raccoon. I use the towel I dry off with to swipe under my eyes until most of the black crap is gone (my husband loves this) and then clean it up with q-tips and water in the morning. That's it. End of routine. I used to have a wee bit more of a system in that I owned a moisturizer and eye makeup remover, but over the years, those items have been deemed "non-essential". All non-essentials have gotten the boot as we've saved for fun stuff like IVF. So essentially, I'm admitting that I will probably have crows feet and creepy wrinkles very soon, but until then no skin care here.
Thanks for reading along! You can post your confessions in the comments so I don't feel so alone! And HAPPY FRIDAY!
Number #4 and #5 apply to me too! I also don't like how I look or feel wearing trousers. I think it goes back to when I was young. I was sort of a cross dressing tomboy. I would rather climb tress or play in the river that dress up dolls, but I would do all my outdoors activities in a dress. I've even noted that I play sport that let you wear skirts and dresses (tennis and field hockey) I have one pain of black trousers and if I do wear them, everyone think the apoclypse is coming. I'm guilty of purchasing various skin care products that just sit it my cabinet as I can't stick to a routine, other than the one you just described!
ReplyDeleteThis is great. My dry shampoo ran out a few weeks ago and I haven't gotten anymore...so I've just been sprinkling baby powder in my hair. It definitely leaves me looking a little grayer, but I get to sleep in an extra 20 minutes! I'm on the opposite side for pants (which I hate), because I'm only 5'2". So all pants are too long, and I look like a child trying on mommy's dress pants. So it's mostly leggings and skirts for me. Sometimes I question whether I'm really a grown up...
ReplyDeletei think i'm totally opposite of you on the last one... i apply approximately 5,437 products to my face/body in terms of skincare. Though I did switch to as many natural products as i could now... LOL!
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream sounds delish! I need to get some asap!
Ha, you're too kind. My secret to the blow out is this hair dryer with a round brush attachment. I have not mastered the separate round brush technique. However, check out this tip (it's really revolutionized how I do my hair each day!!) http://fashonnbeauty.blogspot.com.tr/2014/04/curl-your-hair-in-five-minutes-and.html
ReplyDeleteI am loving maxi dresses and skirts these days too for sure! I don't have to worry about length or gaining/losing weight to wear them, they work every single time! haha I only recently started using skin care stuff and the stuff I use is not expensive at all, like St. Ives. I figure at 35 I better start doing something! Oh and I only recently discovered dry shampoo and oh my I can't believe I have gone this long without it!
ReplyDeleteHahaha I love your passion for the ice cream! You and my dad should be BFF!! I have some dry shampoo that I use occasionally when my bangs get super greasy, but otherwise I wash my hair every day. The dry shampoo makes my hair such a strange texture...kind of frizzy or something? I can't imagine using it on my whole head.
ReplyDeleteHa ha I love this! We are very similar.... I don't have any sort of face care regime, I have the same issue with pants (only my issue is petite vs regular) and I'm obsessed with Ben & Jerry's (my fav is coffee Heath bar crunch). Cute post, friend!! XOXO
ReplyDeleteConfession: I hate all clothes, haha, not just pants!!!! I have to wash my hair every day, because it is JUST that oily - ewww!!! And girl... you need to start taking off that makeup at night!!! So much better for you (as if you really needed to hear that from me)
ReplyDeleteHaha I am so with you! I hate washing my hair, as Erika documented in her "dear Erika" post - she told me I should wash my hair more but I declined! I also love #5 because I hats taking off my makeup! What a pain! I wish I could snap my fingers and be clean and dry!
ReplyDeleteO my woozers! I thought i was the only one who craved chocolate during AF. Its a must have craving!! And i definetely dont have a face care routine either. I do the towel thing as well..Love it!
ReplyDeleteLove confession 3 and 5. I completely relate to these. Such a fun post!
ReplyDeleteIf a little ice cream and some cookies make you feel better, once a month I say give 'er!
ReplyDeleteI hate skin care routines. And I hate taking vitamins.
You better believe I'm going to run out and buy that Salted Caramel Core B & J's! Thanks for the reco. Always love learning more about you! I'm with you on the pants too. I'm all about the elastic waist and not afraid to admit it
ReplyDeleteI actually think the reward for your period each month is a good idea! I've always done something similar, although I never really thought about it that way. My treats usually come in the form of buying myself something online or getting a pedicure. Periods suck, and I think you deserve to treat yourself to a little perk. Oh, and I also hate pants, except for the opposite reason--being too short. I look like a hobbit in dress pants :/ So, no thank you. That Ben and Jerry's sounds amazing! I'll look for it next time I'm at the store. Your confessions are so cute by the way :) Nothing to be ashamed of with any of those, in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteI don't wash my face every night either. I may do it 40% of the time. Maybe less. But I don't wear any makeup either. My idea of make up is moisturizer. :) pathetic, I know!
ReplyDelete1. I MUST try these Ben and Jerry core ice cream pints. 2. Wow, didn't realize how tall you are! I'm jealous, I'm only 5'2" and sometimes even "short" length pants are too long. 3. A cheap bar of Dove soap works wonders as a face wash/make-up remover at the end of the day!
ReplyDeleteI love chocolate, too, so no advice there. And my husband loves expensive ice cream. You could try really dark chocolate, usually one cannot eat as much of that on one sitting, but still has the chocolate feel & taste.
ReplyDeleteAs for the pants, you could get a sewing machine and hem them to the appropriate length... (Confession: I have a sewing machine. It hasn't even seen daylight on this part of the world yet. I just keep folding my pants, which inevitably doesn't last and leads to them being destroyed... but, luckily, in my job nobody cares.)
Mine guilty confessions are not flossing enough and eating pizza way too often. I say it could be worse. For you too! ;)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you reward yourself for your period each month. I should start doing that. Oh, and my skin care routine has gone out the window since this whole infertility thing got started, too! $20 for a nice skin cream? Nope, that's one application of Crinone!
