Tomorrow, February 27, 2013, thousands of people across this planet are going dark. They are shutting down all forms of social media for the day in honor of the 27 MILLION men, women and children in bondage today. Modern day slavery exists. In fact, there are more people enslaved today than at any other time in history. In 161 countries, including our own, slavery still exists.
Passion Conferences has created a campaign called End It Movement with the purpose to shine a light on slavery. They want every man, woman and child to know that there are 27 million people, just like them who are forgotten, who are pushed out of mind, who are living in the shadows. You may have heard a little something about this on CNN as they reported the kick off of this campaign earlier this January.
So, I'm joining in. Tomorrow, February 27, I'm signing off from social media. No Facebook, no Twitter (I don't tweet), and no blogs. It's one very small thing that I can do to call attention to their plight. I can't change the world, but together we can be a force for good. Our collective voice is stronger. I'll see you all on the 28th.

I hadn't even heard about this (as is apparent from the fact that I'm reading your blog today, the 27th). But it's a really good idea. I recently read Half the Sky, which is about these very issues. Such an important read. My husband and I are reconsidering our tithe and other charitable donations we make, trying to figure out how to join forces with organizations fighting against slavery and trafficking.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard about this, but what a great cause!
